The former Whitney Fire Hall has been sold, with Bada Holdings proposing six to eight apartments in the building.

A former fire hall that's been on the market for years has been sold.

Bada Holdings Inc. bought the former Whitney Fire Station at 114 Dixon St. for $167,000. The sale, which is contingent on the company applying for a zoning change within three months, was given the green light by Timmins council at its April 16 meeting.

The zoning changes are needed because Bada Holdings has pitched converting the building into six to eight residential units. The property is currently zoned institutional.

The building has been vacant for years.

While the volunteer station in Porcupine operated out of the fire hall for decades, the department relocated to the Integrated Emergency Services Complex (IESC) at Northern College in 2018.

In 2019, the city merged the two properties that the building was on into one and declared it surplus land.

“This went out to open market two times previously starting back in 2019 and there’s been no bids or submissions received on this one. We went out for the third and final time and got lucky and we received a couple bids on this one,” Scott Tam, director of growth and infrastructure, told council.

The appraised value of the building is $250,000. All of the bids ranged from $150,000 to $180,000.

Bada Holdings also recently bought the two vacant lots on Michener Boulevard in Melview Park.
